My Career as a Minted Artist

Since 2015, Minted has played a meaningful role in my journey as an artist and graphic designer. What began with a single art submission grew into years of creative exploration across stationery, art prints, and home decor, all shaped by Minted’s crowdsourced design model and its global community of independent artists.

Minted is an online design marketplace founded in 2007 by Mariam Naficy. It connects consumers with original designs sourced from independent artists around the world, using public voting and data insights to determine which designs are produced and sold. Through monthly challenges, artists are encouraged to push their creativity while responding to real customer demand.

Where It All Began: Name Initials (2015)

My journey with Minted began in 2015 with “Name Initials”, which was selected as an Editor’s Pick in the “A Is for Art challenge”. This piece marked an important turning point for me. Designed for children’s rooms and nurseries, it focused on thoughtful personalization, typography, and subtle watercolor detail. Being recognized by Minted’s editorial team validated a design approach rooted in subtlety, care, and emotional connection.

That first Editor’s Pick became the foundation for everything that followed.

Growing Through Editor’s Picks Across Categories

Over the years, my work continued to be selected as Editor’s Picks across a wide range of Minted challenges, spanning art, wedding stationery, holiday cards, and children’s invitations. These selections reflected not one specific style, but an evolving design language shaped by different formats, audiences, and printing techniques.

Highlights include:

  • Wedding and save‑the‑date designs such as “Abstract Elegant” and “Love Lines,” which explored modern layouts and premium print finishes.

  • Holiday and New Year cards including foil‑pressed selections like “Elegant Holiday Frame,” “Elegant 2017,” and “Joy Garland.”

  • Children’s and family‑focused designs such as “My Little Ballerina,” “Baby Fox,” and “Master Builders Party,” created with warmth, playfulness, and thoughtful color palettes.

Each Editor’s Pick represented a moment where concept, execution, and audience aligned.

A Challenge Win: Moon Phases (2019)

In 2019, “Moon Phases” was selected as the Winner in the “Another Year, Another Adventure” greeting card challenge. The design was also chosen as a Target pick, expanding its reach beyond Minted’s platform. The piece leaned into minimalism and symbolism, offering a quiet, refined alternative within a traditionally bold category.

This remains my sole official Challenge Win and holds special meaning as recognition from both Minted and a major retail partner.

Retail Partnerships and Extended Reach

Beyond Minted.com, several of my designs were selected for retail and partner assortments, extending their life and audience. These included placements with:

  • Target, through various greeting card assortments

  • Pottery Barn Kids, via Editor’s Pick selections in collaborative art challenges

  • Domino, through the Minted x Domino Art Challenge

These opportunities allowed my work to be seen in physical stores, catalogs, and broader retail environments.

What Minted Has Meant to My Creative Practice

What has always set Minted apart for me is the balance between creative freedom and real‑world application. The crowdsourced challenge model encourages experimentation while grounding design decisions in audience response. Being consistently selected as an Editor’s Pick affirmed a design philosophy focused on clarity, emotion, and craftsmanship.

Minted’s production quality, attention to detail, and support for independent artists have shaped not just where my work lives, but how I think about designing with intention.

Looking Back, Moving Forward

From my first Editor’s Pick in 2015 to retail placements and a Challenge Win, Minted has been a space where my work has grown, adapted, and reached audiences I never imagined when I first submitted “Name Initials.”

I remain deeply grateful for every challenge, selection, and opportunity—and excited for what future creative explorations may bring.
